Emerald Lakes is a vibrant lakeside community situated in the centre of the Gold Coast incorporating a mix of uses, unique residences and commercial heart. Central to the project is the 37Ha lake and associated parklands. The development also includes an 18 hole championship golf course and 13km of walking and bike tracks and ephemeral wetlands. In 2005, GCCC awarded Emerald Lakes the Built Project Award for overall Master Planning and Design of strategic framework for future development. Emerald Lakes was awarded the Housing Industry Association (HIA) Australian Residential Lifestyle Development of the Year with the Golf Course Precinct winning the Urban Development Institute of Australia (QLD) Title for Large-Medium Density Development.

Mortons-Urban Solutions were commissioned as part of the consultant team to coordinate the civil engineering, design, contract administration and inspections of the civil construction work for the 37Ha lake and associated civil infrastructure.

This site itself had complex hydraulic issues with Mortons-Urban Solutions forming an integral part of the design process. The development of the lake system also included significant engineering infrastructure such as tidal exchange systems, three bridges, a flood mitigation system and slip formed revetment walls.

All earthworks had to balance pre-development and post-development flood storage capacity. Coordination with the hydraulic engineering team and the continual up-dating of flood modeling, together with constant on site monitoring and assessment ensured the development complied with GCCC recommendations, while satisfying the client’s requirements for architectural and landscaping appeal.
