Amanda Sutherland

Senior Town Planner

Amanda joined Mortons Urban Solutions in 2002 and as a Senior Town Planner holds a Bachelor of Built Environment (Urban and Regional Planning), as well as a Graduate Diploma of Urban and Regional Planning, majoring in Urban Design. Amanda has over 16 years’ experience in the Development Industry and has worked in both the private and public sectors both in Australia and the United Kingdom.

Amanda has worked on a wide range of projects, primarily in the private industry with a focus on urban residential and park living style subdivisions. Amanda’s main area of expertise is in guiding clients and Council through the Development Assessment Process including preliminary assessments, preparation of Application material and negotiations with Council. Throughout her career she has prepared and submitted development applications across a number of Local Governments including Gold Coast, Logan, Brisbane, Redlands, Scenic Rim (formerly Beaudesert), Central Highlands (formerly Emerald & Duaringa) and Tweed Shire.

Amanda is expert in successfully pursuing applications and negotiating approval outcomes to client’s requirements.

Senior CAD Draftsperson

Baiba joined Mortons Urban Solutions 11 years ago and has completed a Certificate in Computer Aided Drafting. With over 45 years’ drafting experience Baiba has accumulated a depth of CAD experience in various fields such as Geological Survey, Mining, Town Planning, Architectural, Survey and Civil Engineering.

As a Senior CAD Draftsperson, Baiba’s principal job is to liaise with Senior Engineers, Planners and Civil Designers to ensure the correct interpretation of sketched designs so that final CAD drawings meet all necessary criteria and are completed within required timeframes. In addition, Baiba’s role is to allocate tasks to staff within the CAD Team to ensure correct drafting procedures are observed and deadlines are met.

So that Mortons’ high standards are maintained, updating design office reference material and plans within the plan management system is also another important part of Baiba’s role.

Project Coordinator

Brad has been employed by Mortons Urban Solutions for 13 years and has over 34 years of civil engineering experience, both in Australia and the UK.

Brad’s experience in the UK spanned over a period of 13 years and was varied, involving both local government and private civil engineering contracting in contract management and project management roles. Brad was the single point of contact on all civil engineering works for Glaxo Welcome Biotech Formation Project which was the winner of 1999 UK Construction Partnering Award.

Brad has several years of residential civil design experience and in his current role Brad is responsible for the coordination of Civil Engineering projects, mainly large scale residential subdivisions (250-1,100+ lots) which present a variety of issues including costing, design, development approval and contract management for the delivery of the completed residential lots together with the associated infrastructure works for each project including external road networks, major sewer and water trunk mains, bridge construction and stormwater detention.

Brad’s depth of project experience is a huge asset to the business.

Civil Design / Draftsperson

Cassie joined Mortons Urban Solutions in February 2014 and has completed a Diploma in Building Design and Technology along with a Certificate in Computer Aided Drafting. With over 6 years’ experience in the engineering industry Cassie has been involved in Civil Infrastructure, Geotechnical, Architectural, Industrial and Electrical projects.

Cassie is responsible for the design and drafting of civil projects, including assisting the drafting team with the production of drawings and their documentation. Cassie also assists in maintaining and updating Mortons’ CAD standards to ensure the best result is achieved.

 

Di Maroney

Business Administrator

Di has been employed by Mortons Urban Solutions since 2000 and has a degree from Griffith University.

Di is responsible for managing all financial aspects of the company and oversees the management of company properties, leases and other assets on the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Cairns and Perth. She is also the HR officer and manages the administration of staff related matters.

Di has extensive property development experience, having worked in the industry prior to joining Mortons and has a good understanding of the business operations and is empathetic to our clients’ needs.

Field Inspector

Doug has been employed by Mortons Urban Solutions for a period of 12 years as a Civil Inspector.

As Civil Inspector, Doug is responsible for the supervision of the operation of contractors on sites where Mortons is engaged as Project Engineer. Doug’s role also involves liaising with the client and contractors, resolving any problems that may occur, organising council inspections and ensuring the smooth and timely delivery of on-site works.

Doug is well respected by the local authorities and council staff and has excellent contractor and client relationships.

Prior to working with Mortons Urban Solutions, Doug was employed as a supervisor for a civil contractor and has over 24 years’ experience in the civil engineering industry.

Erika Perry

CAD Draftsperson

Erika joined Mortons Urban Solutions in 2003 and has over 10 years’ experience as a CAD operator and draftsperson.

Erika’s current role involves liaising with project engineers, planners and civil designers to ensure the information that is transferred to drawings and plans is accurate and correct and meets all the relevant council and in-house drafting standards.

Erika is also responsible for liaising with surveying companies to produce accurate documentation of constructed works in accordance with the relevant council standards.

Erika has good attention to detail and works well under tight timeframes to produce the necessary plans to a very high standard.

 

Gavin Johnson

Gavin Johnson

Town Planning Manager

Gavin joined Mortons Urban Solutions in late 2013 and brings with him 23 years experience as a town planner and development manager and currently works for clients in Queensland and New South Wales. Prior to his role as a town planning consultant Gavin held development management positions with large scale private sector developers as well as senior positions in local government in both QLD & NSW including Gold Coast City Council.

Gavin’s background has provided an understanding of the economics, marketing and urban design aspects of development projects. This experience has complemented his role in providing assistance with project feasibility, project coordination and the preparation of planning applications for a range of major developments in South East Queensland and Northern NSW.

Gavin has particular expertise with the layout, design and management of large residential master planned communities having worked on a number of the Stockland and Lend Lease projects including Varsity Lakes, Woodlands, Ormeau Ridge, Bahrs Scrub and Hundred Hills. He has also managed the approval of numerous major apartment complexes, retirement communities and commercial developments.

Gavin has established contacts with local and state government officers, major consultants, contractors and developers on the Gold Coast, Brisbane and the Tweed, and an ability to co-ordinate and manage professionals across a broad spectrum of professions to achieve desired outcomes.

Gavin has sound knowledge of the Queensland and NSW Planning Legislation and Local Planning Controls such as the Tweed Shire Council LEP, DCP and policies, as well as the Logan and Gold Coast Planning Schemes and related planning policies/documents. He is a qualified town planner with a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning from the University of New England and is a Certified Practicing Planner.

Contract Administrator and Project Coordinator

Glenn joined Mortons Urban Solutions in January 2011 as a contract administrator. Glenn’s role has expanded to now include project coordination where he is responsible for the construction of projects on the Sunshine Coast and in regional Queensland along with contract and tender documentation.

Glenn holds an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Southern QLD, a Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Civil) with distinction from Central QLD University and is currently studying for a Masters of Project Management (Complex Project Management) at the University of Southern QLD, with completion expected in 2015.

Glenn has 20 years’ experience in the civil engineering industry which includes drafting, design, project management and contract administration positions within Australia for both local government and private consultancies as well as overseas for multinational companies.

Glenn has a strong interest in sediment and erosion control and has submitted a research paper on sediment basin design in for publication. He is a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) from the International Erosion Control Association (IECA).

Jane Charters

Business Development Manager / Project Manager

Jane joined Mortons Urban Solutions in 2010 and holds a Bachelor of Regional and Town Planning (Hons) from the University of QLD (UQ) and has completed post graduate study at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) achieving a Graduate Certificate in Project Management and a Graduate Diploma in Property Economics.

Jane’s role as Business Development Manager is to identify and secure a future pipeline of work in identified growth corridors, particularly Perth. Jane is also responsible for coordinating Marketing collateral for the company.

Jane has local government experience and more recently held Acquisition and Research roles with major developer Stockland, where she was responsible for managing the due diligence and purchase of several large (residential) projects.

Jane’s experience is predominantly in residential land development, in the site identification, market analysis, negotiation and feasibility stages. Jane has strong Project Management skills and works well in teams and is able to effectively coordinate consultants and key development stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.

Jane is strategic and commercial in her approach and has a sound understanding of the market dynamics and fundamentals that drive the business. She is able to identify future development opportunities for clients and the business alike and has an established network of contacts.

John Harrison

Director

John is a Civil Engineer with over 20 years’ experience in engineering. John joined Mortons Urban Solutions in December 1999 and became a Director of the business in 2005, following eight years in the civil construction industry. John has considerable experience in all facets of the civil construction industry ranging from Estimating and Construction Supervision to Project Management.

John’s primary role as a Director of the company is to manage the Design and Engineering teams to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget and in accordance with the approved engineering standards. John works closely with Mortons’ clients and is involved in the delivery of these projects. He has an extensive network of industry contacts and is well respected by industry representatives and stakeholders such as local government, development consultants and his client base.

John has extensive experience in the delivery and cost planning of residential estates – including master planned communities and smaller subdivision projects. In John’s years as a contractor he gained valuable skills in the production of cost estimates through the detailed tender process.

John is experienced in the production of project cost analyses and contractual negotiations, which includes the preparation of ‘whole of life’ project costings for project feasibility, updating and maintenance of civil budgets for regular project performance reviews, advice in relation to contract durations and the reviewing of contract documentation and variations. John also understands the importance of site presentation both during and post construction which has become one of the key criteria for the staff of Mortons Urban Solutions.

John is a UDIA Member and a current Member of the Australian Institute of Engineers.

Kevin Fox

Director

Kevin obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science (Civil) in 1988 from the University of British Columbia, Canada and has over 25 years of land development, geotechnical and civil engineering experience in Canada and Australia, working in both development and consultancy roles.

Kevin joined Mortons Urban Solutions in 2006 and became a Director of the business in 2007. Kevin’s primary role as Director of the company is to manage the Design and Engineering teams to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget and in accordance with the approved engineering standards. Kevin is also focused on Business Development, and ensuring there is a future pipeline of work to support the continued growth and performance of the business.

Kevin is highly experienced in Project Management Services, Project Coordination, Estimating and Construction Supervision. He is well connected in the development industry and maintains a good working relationship with Government Agencies at all levels.

Matt Langmack

Project Engineer

Matthew commenced with Mortons Urban Solutions in a work experience role whilst he was completing his university studies. Matthew graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) (Hons) and is a Member of Engineers Australia. Upon graduating, Matthew joined the company as a Project Engineer, a role he has had for 6 years.

Matthew is now experienced in the Project Coordination and engineering design for residential subdivisions and the associated design of water, sewer and road networks. Matthew’s experience is varied, having worked on a range of projects including large master planned communities and smaller scale projects.

Matthew has strong technical skills, particularly with relation to Project Coordination of residential subdivisions and water and sewerage network analysis.

Project Coordinator / Senior Engineer

Matt holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) (Hons) and is a Member of Engineers Australia.

Matt has over 13 years professional experience working as both the client and as a consultant. Through his experience with GHD Pty Ltd, Matt was involved in the construction of a variety of government civil and structural infrastructure projects ranging from small local road resurfacing to major bypass highway construction. As a Developer/Client he was involved in residential development from land purchase through planning to construction which made him very aware of the implications of time and cost control on projects.

Since joining the Mortons Urban Solutions team over 3 years ago Matt has been involved in the project coordination and engineering design of small, medium and large scale developments. From 10 lot residential subdivisions, 100+ lot acreage Estates through to a master-planned, mixed use 15,000+ dwelling projects.

Matt enjoys building relationships with clients to understand what they are trying to achieve with their project and is commercial in his approach. Matt is respected by his peers, clients and key industry representatives.

Mitchell Gassman

WA Engineering Manager / Senior Engineer

Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) (Civil major) including specialisation in Project Management & Property Economics. Mitchell is currently completing a Professional Development Program to gain status as a Chartered Engineer. A Registered Member of Engineers Australia, Mitchell started working with Mortons Urban Solutions as an undergraduate in 2007 and has progressed through to Project Engineer and Senior Engineer.

Mitchell is responsible for project coordination, evaluation of development proposals, tender and contract administration, construction supervision and negotiations with local and state government agencies to achieve ‘develop-able’ project outcomes for his clients. Mitchell’s role has also expanded to include the establishment of the Perth, WA business and securing a future pipeline of engineering work.

Mitchell has diverse project experience and a sound understanding of all aspects of project delivery from acquisition, through to project start up, delivery and completion, beyond the civil engineering and project delivery considerations. Mitchell has a strong work ethic, is outcome driven and able to manage multi-disciplinary development teams working directly with the client to ensure successful project delivery, where he is highly respected by his clients, peers and other project team members.

Office Assistant

Nikki joined Mortons Urban Solutions in 2005 as an Administrative Assistant and receptionist. Nikki’s role has since expanded to include development and management of the paperless filing system, all data recording and QA processes.

Nikki has 10 years’ local government experience, working in the areas of Records, Rates and Engineering Services where she held the position of Minutes/Support Secretary for the Engineering Committee and was Assistant Secretary to the Director of Engineering Services.

Nikki is efficient, competent and approachable and has a detailed understanding of all aspects of the administrative business operations.

As Senior Civil Designer, Roger prepares the detailed design and documentation of civil and civil infrastructure projects for the business.

Roger is experienced in designing landform favourable for development and in the efficient design of roads, services, lots and associated infrastructure.

Sunshine Coast Manager / Design Office Manager

Paul joined Mortons Urban Solutions in October 2012 as the Sunshine Coast Design Manager and is also Office Manager. Paul is involved with the design, documentation and management of civil and civil infrastructure projects on the Sunshine Coast and in regional Queensland.

Paul holds an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering from QUT and has in excess of 30 years design experience in the civil engineering industry, with extensive experience in the design of master planned communities, major road infrastructure, project management and he has held design office management positions within Australia for both local government and private consultancies.

Paula joined Mortons Urban Solutions in 1997 in the role of Receptionist and now works as Personal Assistant to Director, Warren Morton. She also assists Directors, John Harrison and Kevin Fox.

Prior to joining Mortons, Paula worked for 18 years in Local Government as Planning & Development Minute Clerk/Secretary to the Town Planner. Paula has extensive office administration and development industry experience and has established relationships with Mortons’ clients and is respected as always being efficient and helpful in her approach.

Principal Director

Warren is the Principal and founding Director of Mortons Urban Solutions. With over 40 years’ experience as a Civil Engineer and Project Manager Warren is well connected in the Development and other related Business Industries and has an established network of contacts. Through his extensive project experience, Warren also has knowledge of planning issues and relevant planning and environmental legislation.

Since establishing the consulting practice in 1992 (then called Morton & Associates), the business has expanded from the Gold Coast to servicing the northern NSW region, Sunshine Coast, Cairns and most recently Perth.

Warren will oversee the growth of the Perth office providing strategic direction and using his years of expertise combined with his established business networks to replicate the success of the QLD business.

Prior to commencing the consulting practice in 1992, Warren had 10 years’ experience with the former Albert Shire (now Gold Coast City Council) as Construction Engineer, Planning Engineer and Subdivision Engineer.

Warren is highly experienced in Project Management, Evaluation of Development Proposals, Construction Supervision and negotiations with Local and State Government agencies to achieve sound development outcomes.

Warren is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Scientists, and Managers (Australia), Registered Professional Engineer (Queensland), Member of the Queensland Environmental Law Association (QELA) and a Member of the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA).

Civil Engineer

Liam commenced with Mortons Urban Solutions in April 2014, making the move from a construction Project Engineer role. Liam graduated with a BEng Civil Engineering (Hons) in 2012 from the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland and is a Member of the Institute of Civil Engineers (Australia, Queensland Branch). Upon graduating, Liam returned to Australia and took up a role in construction, working on one of the Curtis Island gas projects in Central QLD before making the move to Mortons Urban Solutions.

Liam is gaining experience in Project Coordination and engineering design for subdivisions and the associated delivery of water, sewer and road networks. Liam plays a part in the successful delivery of a range of projects from small and local infrastructure to large master planned sustainable communities.

Rijesh joined Mortons Urban Solutions in April 2014 and has a Certificate 3 in CAD Drafting (Skills Tech), Post Graduate Certificate in Engineering Management (QUT) and is currently studying a Bachelor of Civil Engineering. Rijesh is a member of Engineers Australia (student membership).

Rijesh has 7 years’ experience in civil design drafting with experience in residential and industrial subdivisions, and structural combined projects, roads and highways. Rijesh is competent in 12d Model, AutoCAD and Auto turn softwares.

Rijesh’s principal role at Mortons Urban Solutions is to liaise with Senior Engineers, Planners and Civil Designers to ensure the correct interpretation of sketched designs, so that final CAD drawings meet all necessary criteria and are completed within required timeframes.
